Voice of the Soul

The New Farm
San Francisco, CA
October 10, 2026
Going to this gig was a last minute decision. I had a pretty lazy Saturday and wanted to get out of the house. Plus the prospect of seeing live music at the building that was once the legendary Pound was too good to pass up.
It was a tad surreal being in there seeing a show. The place seemed so much smaller than I remember. I guess that’s the way with a lot of things from the past. Memory tends to exaggerate a bit. It looked relatively the same except for a bunch of couches strewn across the dance floor.
The longer I was there the more I realized how much I missed that place. I had some great times there both performing and attending. The Pound nowadays is a plant nursery and goat farm…go figure.
The band I was there to see was yet another Death tribute called Voice Of The Soul. Other bands played while I was there but there’s no need to mention them. I had never heard of Voice Of The Soul but apparently they’ve been doing it for a while now.
They were KILLER!! They played a helluva setlist covering every album/era of Death. I believe their setlist was :
Evil Dead
Open Casket
Zombie Ritual
Living Monstrosity
Lack Of Comprehension
Flattening Of Emotions
The Philosopher
Symbolic
Crystal Mountain
Scavenger Of Human Sorrow
Pull The Plug

They were all killer players with the stage right guitarist being the standout. He nailed the solos of all the different lead guitarists Death have had throughout the years.
The drummer nailed his parts as well…unfortunately you couldn’t hear a lot of the intricacies of these complex drum parts due to the crappy sound. The drums were absolutely buried. I actually had to walk up to the side of the stage during “Scavenger Of Human Sorrow” to see if he was playing Richard Christy’s parts…which he most certainly was.

I’m not trying to bag on The New Farm (that’s the name of The Pound now). I think it’s great they’re putting on shows and I totally get it’s a DIY spot with probably limited resources and funds but if they just put a little more tlc into the sound system it would be a great place to see and play shows. I would most definitely have Hellhunter play there…once they get the sound sorted out.
