Death Angel Summer Tour 6: The End

IT’S A WRAP! The Death Angel Summer Of Wrath tour has reached its conclusion in Spain and I couldn’t think of a more beautiful place to end it.

The last three shows were festivals in this lovely part of the world but to be quite honest they’re all kind of a blur especially now that I’m home. One of them was in Portugal and the other two were in areas whose names escape me.

One of the fests we played with Triptykon who were so heavy they brought the crowd down to a trance-like state. Most of their set was songs from their two full lengths with a couple of Frost classics thrown in. Actually they played two songs from Celtic Frost’s final offering MONOTHEIST, which was awesome to hear since that album seems to be forgotten by a lot of fans. “Ground” was especially rad to hear live.
Their drummer, who’s apparently from Necrophagist, did a fine job but on the old Celtic Frost tunes no one plays them like Reed St. Mark. He will forever be the best drummer suited for those songs in my mind. I chatted with Tom G. Warrior briefly after their set. Some folks seem to have beef with the man but every time I’ve met him he’s been nothing but a consummate gentleman.

We also saw Judas Priest a second time and though they played the exact same set, they seemed much more alive this time around and I enjoyed it much more. Maybe because it was the end of the tour and everyone had loosened up a bit but the good vibe of the second Priest show was palpable.

At the last gig I spit blood before the final song. The blood capsule gag never gets old with me. It’s a tried and true classic. I didn’t tell Mark or Rob about it and seeing the looks on their faces was truly worth it. Many people thought it was real and I had bitten my tongue or something.

I’m sure I’m forgetting many details about those last three gigs but when it’s the end of a tour people, at least I do, tend to go into shutdown mode. We all got back in one piece.
The tour was a smashing success and now we look to the future. Next for me is the Nefarious album release show on July 19th at the DNA Lounge in SF. SEE YOU THERE!
