This may have been the very first time I’ve DJ’d a Metal show (or any show for that matter) on a Monday night but HEY!! Thrash Metal doesn’t give a shit about your job in the morning!!
All things considered (Monday night and first night after NAMM) it was a somewhat respectable turnout for this gig.

Up first was the revamped, revitalized Phantom Witch. I enjoy this incarnation of the band. Their new vocalist fits the mold much better than the previous guy. No disrespect to him but his voice seemed more appropriate for a Black Metal band maybe. This new guy definitely embraces the Thrash Metal ethos in sound and look much more appropriately. He has really good energy on stage and the band in general seemed to be having more fun now.
Phantom Witch ripped through a 40, 45 minute set and the crowd dug ‘em as did I.

Now for the man of the hour….STEVE!!! No wait…I mean ZETRO!! I actually don’t think I’ve ever called him Steve in my life.
First off, Zetro sounded as good as he ever has. He hasn’t lost anything whatsoever in his post Exodus days. And his band were on point. They really did their homework on those deep Exodus cuts. They were tight as hell and really did all the material (Exodus, Legacy, Testament) justice. Especially the lead player. He really nailed Gary Holt’s AND Rick Hunolt’s solos. That’s no easy feat.

The setlist delivered absolutely. I can’t remember the last time I heard “Like Father Like Son” live. Thirty plus years? And the show opener “Deranged” was executed flawlessly.
He closed the show with the long forgotten final song on Impact Is Imminent “Thrash Under Pressure” and it was a perfect way to end a night of deep cuts and seldomly heard Thrash classics. There could be a future with this….
